Zak Penn To Direct Poker Mockumentary “The Grand”

Well now that all the fanboys have unleashed their ire on screenwriter Zak Penn for making a mockery of their beloved X-Men in X3: The Last Stand, Penn has decided to return to safer waters and direct another small film of his own. The movie he is planning sounds very similar to his directorial debut, Incident at Loch Ness, an interesting melding of reality and fiction that was passed off by most as an attempt to rip off Christopher Guest’s trademark mockumentary style. This one sounds even more Christopher Guest-esque (which is not necessarily a bad thing in my books). The Grand is an improvisational comedy revolving around an international poker tournament. The cast will once again include a lot of Hollywood celebs playing themselves, including German filmmaker Werner Herzog and such big names as Woody Harrelson, Ray Liotta, Ray Romano, Jason Alexander and Cheryl Hines. Filming begins next month is Las Vegas, and the movie is aiming for a 2007 release. Can’t wait to hear more about this project… if you haven’t seen (or didn’t like) Incident at Loch Ness it’s time to give it another chance.
