Lost/Alias Creator To Direct New Star Trek Film
So how’s this for an earth-shattering news story to kick off the weekend? It’s being reported all around the net today that a new Star Trek movie is finally about to get off the ground, and the main creative force behind it will be none other than Lost and Alias creator J.J. Abrams. Abrams’ movie career seems to be getting off to a pretty good start, having just finished up Mission: Impossible 3… and now this? Abrams will write, direct and produce the movie, which will be based around the original cast. Now before you go asking how they’ll resurrect Scotty and Bones from the grave, the story will actually follow the first meeting of a young Kirk, Spock and McCoy at Starfleet Academy, so I’m assuming they’ll be using completely different actors. (Then again, with CGI being what it is nowadays, maybe they’ll go completely computer animated!) Co-writing duties will go to Alias writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who also collaborated with J.J. on the M:I3 script. Lost producers Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk will also be a part of the production team. This news is certain to get the attention of nerds around the world, let’s just hope they can back it all up. Abrams is still somewhat unproven as a movie director in my opinion, but overall I’m cautiously optimistic about this. This could be just the shot in the arm that Trek has been needing for years.
