Is this “Kanye West’s Block Party”? I suppose it only makes sense that Kanye West would be the next in a line of rappers to get a feature film inspired by his life and music. However, what sets this project (announced earlier in the week) apart from the vanity pieces like 8 Mile and Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ is the fact that although Kanye will appear in the movie, it won’t be a pseudo-biopic. The goal is to create a “multiperspective portrait of the U.S. as seen through the eyes of West and several filmmakers”. The film will feature multiple segments or short stories from 6 writers and 10 to 12 directors, tied together by one central narrative. George C. Wolfe (Lackawanna Blues) will be overseeing the project, and it will feature both new and old music from Kanye. Sounds like an interesting concept to say the least, although it remains unclear whether the movie will be mostly fictional or based on true stories.
