Playstation 3 Officially Delayed Until November

Sony fans had their hopes dashed this week when Ken Kutaragi, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, announced that the worldwide launch of the Playstation 3 wouldn’t be until November of this year. The system had originally been scheduled for release sometime in the spring, but with technology for the Blu-Ray drive still being finalized they were forced to push the release back closer to the end of the year. He also revealed that the PS3 will feature a 60GB hard drive that developers should assume will be included in all systems (whether or not it costs extra… well I’m sure it will), and will be fully compatible with all PS1 and PS2 games (a pretty hefty claim). Kutaragi also announced that the PSP will be undergoing a price drop at the end of March to $199 in the U.S. for the basic pack. A PSP EyeToy camera is planned for release in September, and also an intriguing “E-Distribution” feature that will allow gamers to download classic PS1 games to their PSP. Sounds like they’re taking a page out of Nintendo’s playbook. It should be interesting to see how it all shakes down.
