TwitchFilm broke some interesting news yesterday (via Kaiju Shakedown) that a remake of John Woo’s classic Hong Kong action flick Hard Boiled is in the works. The interesting thing is that Chow Yun Fat will reprise his role in the movie, which made both him and John Woo international stars. Woo was also reportedly offered a chance to direct, but turned in down. Apparently he has better things to do than remake his own films. (Instead he would prefer to remake classic 80’s cheese like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe!). Johnnie To (Fulltime Killer) has been hired in his place, and it should be interesting to see his take on this movie. Are Hong Kong action flicks the next genre to be mined by Hollywood for ideas? Production on the new Hard Boiled is to begin in May 2007.
