You’re preaching to the choir, my good man. I love physical media. I’m just not that big a Simpsons fan anymore so I don’t collect the discs.

Yeah, I assume that most of the Film Junk community collects physical media, but it wasn’t necessarily directed at you specifically, I kind-of piggybacked on your comment to voice my general thoughts regarding censorship in the digital age.
If someone really wanted to watch this episode, and don’t have the DVD’s, then they could. It’s not that hard. But it’s the principle of it. and it’s a huge f%&ing principle. And despite the fact the episode is not “rare” (at least for now), a hard copy of a censored piece of entertainment is still valuable, much more than a digital file.

So I may be preaching to the choir here, but the cultural importance of physical media in the digital age cannot be overstated, even if stated among people who already appreciate it. It may literally come down to the preservation of some works within the public domain in their original form, or even at all. It is already happening.
