A long intro, this is a good sign

  • Oso Jugo

Did a watercolor portrait of John Carpenter and a botched one of Sean Dwyer in the Running Tunnel. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c74c52669c2eb30fbec84d1c73f2dc642f7244fa22a36797b4f642f98eb1a4d4.jpg

  • Sean

    Very nice

  • devolutionary

During the intro with Dax, I detected a slight hint of echo. Which Site was this recorded at Sean? Different mics?

  • Sean

Recorded at Site B. There was some background noise picked up by the new mixer and I think Frank tried to remove it. May have inadvertently created that echoey effect. It’s only noticeable at the beginning?

  • devolutionary

It’s more obvious in the intro but very subtle with you and Frank. More noticeable with Dax’s mic throughout. Keep in mind I usually listen w/ headphones (@ work).

  • Barlton Canks

This episode really got me wishing for Weird Web Wednesday…Gene’s Reviews, formbx257, McKamey Manor on Youtube, through in Frank’s fav Dollar Bill’s Store and you got a nice Sunday afternoon.

  • Falsk

So when’s the FJ Coaster Meetup?

  • stevens1

The reverb is still there during the review of Venom.

  • Indianamcclain

The only reason people thought Life was a prequel to Venom is because Sony used footage from Spider-Man 3 in a tv spot that isn’t in the film. They’re not connected aside from that.

  • MartyMcFlyJr

Loved the comic book appraisal by Dax. Can he do that for Frank’s entire collection?

  • pcch7

Yeah it comes in and out. It’s there during the spoiler discussion too

  • Sean

It was also written by the guys who did Zombieland and Deadpool, who wrote a script for Venom at one point. And the creature in the movie resembles a symbiote.

  • pcch7

we definitely need a FJ roadtrip podcast next spring/summer, we need to get to the bottom of who is the toughest in a coaster

  • pcch7

Jay toyed with the idea of Jay Draws t-shirts a while back, any update on this? Has it fallen to the wayside?

  • Jonnie123

I noticed that too. Glad it’s not just me… thought my phone was on the blink. Great episode though. Loving the rollercoaster chat! ????

  • Lior

Somebody should make a compilation of Film Junk’s greatest shitter stories and then burn it on a disc and wrap it in paper towels for a shipment to Indonesia.

Also, Jay’s deflection tactics is reaching the level of an art form.

  • Mrespony

Laughed hard at Jay’s “got a bit of a parasite” impression of Tom Hardy. I had the same reaction to Venom, Upgrade had stolen their thunder and did it better. Michelle Williams middle-parted hairdo became a massive distraction for me.

  • Jake

Regarding the connection to Spider-Man. I think they connected Venom to Spider-Man with that Spider-Verse preview. The text “meanwhile in another universe…” that plays beforehand is the connection. I think we’re to assume Venom is part of the Spider-Verse. I could be wrong on this but that is how I interpreted it.

  • Matt the Kiwi

    Coaster premium?

  • devolutionary

    Movies with quality coaster material?
Shakedown, Rollercoaster (obviously), Zombieland, Nat’l Lampoons Vacation, Final Destination 3? (forgot), Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom, True Romance, Escape From Tomorrow.

  • yonato

Yeah, there’s definitely some weird effects going on when listening with headphones. Doesn’t really detract too much though.

  • Kenneth Serenyi

Venom is 0% connected to the MCU. It’s actually a leftover story that SONY wanted to lead up to a “Sinister Six” film but those plans were scrapped after the disappointing performance of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Marvel Studios has already release their 3 movies for the year.

  • Matt the Kiwi

That actually would be a great premium. But I was hoping for something more literal with the boys actually going on coasters and recording themselves (obviously, the longer the queues the better for us listeners). Dax needs to be there too with 2 mikes – one for vocals, the other one somewhere down by his colon so we can hear whats going on as they get closer to the ride.

  • Sean

Yeah but if Tom Holland appears in Sony’s Spider-verse at some point (there is talk he will be in the Kraven the Hunter movie) doesn’t that make it technically connected to the MCU? Sony definitely wants people to think it is. I know that Marvel has nothing to do with it, but Sony’s trying to piggyback on it as much as possible.

  • Kenneth Serenyi

Sure, that is a smart move considering the MCU has grossed over 4 billion dollars this year alone. BTW, all movies based on Marvel comics have a Marvel Logo in the beginning, including X-Men, Blade, and the Spider-Man movies, regardless of which studio owns the movie rights.

  • Cocky S.O.B.

I heard reverb just on Dax for the whole show. Not so much an echo for me. It was more pronounced in the beginning but lasted throughout. No big deal though.

    Great show.

  • Jordan W H

Love Frank more than life itself, but did he really say: “I’d rather watch Venom again before Civil War?!” Madness. One of the very best the genre has ever produced vs fucking Venom. Might be worse than when he said Suicide Squad was better than Winter Solider.

    p.s. Venom definitely not MCU

  • Civil War and Winter Soldier are dull grey turds. I guess Venom is a shiny black turd, but imagine if it had been a MATTE black turd!

  • Jameson

I’m loving this ongoing roller coaster debacle. It’s riveting to say the least.

  • Beat_C

    same here.

  • Beat_C

    yes, same here.

  • Beat_C

    wow!

  • newtaurus

Amy Pascal saying things out of turn doesn’t make it true. And yes, of course Sony wants to piggyback on the MCU as much as possible, but that doesn’t make it part of the group.

  • newtaurus

Civil War is terrible. The only reason lines like “I don’t care, he killed my mom” and “…your buddy, your Bucky” aren’t the butt of jokes is because everyone who isn’t a massive comic nerd forgot that entire movie the second they left the theater. To say that movie is one of the “very best the genre has to offer” is an insult to the genre.

And for the record, all three Junk hosts trashed Civil War, and when Dax said he rewatched it I don’t recall him having the same enthusiasm for it when he reviewed it.

  • newtaurus

I’m with Frank. Typical Jay deflection.

  • Oso Jugo

Thanks but I had Sean’s likeness better in an earlier version of the watercolor. Check it out. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/76636597ca982b550b8524fc44dfa77bfd6f8b3f18d970d44da606eb5dad5e53.jpg

  • Andrew Lincoln

Definitely going to need another “roadcast” where you hit the road and hunt down coasters. Sponsored by Monster. Feed the beast.

  • Andrew Lincoln

Fellow junkers, what was the Argento lineup again? Was it..
    Bird w/ Crystal Plumage
    Cat O Nine Tails
    Suspiria
    Phenomena
    Tenebre
    ?

  • devolutionary

Not 100% set-in-stone but appears to be:
Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Deep Red, Suspiria, Tenebre, and Phenomena.
Maybe one other one but doubtful.

  • Andrew Lincoln

    Thanks!
