Vice Trailer: Adam McKay’s Dick Cheney Biopic Starring Christian Bale

vice

Although Will Ferrell has Holmes and Watson coming out this holiday season, his buddy Adam McKay is putting the finishing touches a very different movie for Annapurna Pictures. Vice finds him following up on his Oscar-nominated film The Big Short with another potential awards contender, once again applying his comedic skills to politics in the form of a satirical Dick Cheney biopic. Christian Bale transforms himself to become Vice President Cheney while Amy Adams plays his wife Lynne, Sam Rockwell plays George W. Bush and Steve Carell plays Donald Rumsfeld. It’s hard not to be reminded of Oliver Stone’s W., but something tells me this one is going to be a lot more savage. Vice hits theatres on Christmas Day; check out the first trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Can’t wait for this. That’s a damn good George W. that Rockwell is doing. Almost makes me wish he had done the Stone film instead of Brolin.

Wow don’t know how he does it! The discipline! I mean gaining weight isn’t the rough part it’s the loosing that’s a killer! Even with a trainer and doctor by your side! Plus the going back and fourth…gotta be rough on the body! Gotta give him credit!

While this does look great from the trailer, the real question is if Mckay has the discipline to play a satire like this without copping out and having characters moralize about how bad everything is. This was ruined the Big Short, having Steve Carrell moralizing the entire movie to make sure the dumb people in the audience got the point
