I’m surprised you guys haven’t dived into Maniac yet. It’s a Fukuaga-mind-fuck that is right up Sean’s alley.

  • Sean

    Just started it last night.

  • Ben Bueno

Wolf Like Me because this movie has wolves in it. Good job

  • devolutionary

When Sean was scouring Sinemia after-market, all I kept thinking of was “Skinemia”. Would Jay be on board?
The Canajun accents during the intro had me rollin. Butt-aaah-so-reeey-meee, don’t cha know!

Frank, I grew up going to Busch Gardens in Virginia. The Alpengeist, Apollo’s Chariot, and the Loch Ness Monster were lots of fun. Def worth the trip if you’re near Williamsburg for any reason.

  • Speaking of unsatisfying endings, the stinger at the end of the podcast has me very unsatisfied…

  • tyler mikol

Guys, I’m in Cleveland, only about 90 minutes from Ceder Point. Can we get a Junker meetup at the Millennium Force when you guys go on your rollercoaster tour? Another idea. A retro review of the 1977 disaster thriller ROLLERCOASTER? I’ve been meaning to watch it. This seems like the perfect time.

  • JC

Just out of interest do you guys watch or even heard of ; Heavy Rescue 401?
Guessing its filmed on your doorsteps

  • Jameson

    SPOILERS:

Apparently the husband and wife are siblings and that’s referred to in some of the dialogue (“I don’t have a memory without him”) and you even seen a picture of them as kids. I guess that plays into the wolf pack idea. The thing I’m struggling with is how Jeffrey Wright’s character factors in. It seems like you could take out his character and the entire plot would play out exactly as it does. Even if she invited him to frame him, it doesn’t make sense why she would leave the boy’s body in the house and immediately confirm he wasn’t attacked by wolves.

  • Tommy

I haven’t gotten to the end in case you guys mention it, but the only thing I didn’t like about Hold The Dark was it turning a certain character into Jason Voorhees at moments. I’d be all into the director doing a straight-up slasher, but I don’t think that style of violence did anything for this movie.

  • Barlton Canks

Damn I wish I could go with you to Cedar Point…Roman and I tried to plan a trip a bunch of times but it never happened. great time of year to go, no one there on weekdays!

  • pcch7

I haven’t signed my cards either

  • Newtman98

I went to college right by Busch Gardens and it was alright. I haven’t been since like 2004 but I remember preferring six flags.

  • schizopolis

I caught that, as well. That was the first motive I came to when Core realized she did the deed. We’re told that both Vern and Medora are “unnatural”, so being siblings without explicitly saying it furthers their narrative. At the least, the filmmakers want to put that idea in our heads without having to explain the logistics of it, since it would be near impossible (town records, towns people, etc.).

I think Core’s character exists like any outsider character, which is to serve as the audience’s perspective. But also, he clearly is seen by the “wolves” as one that understands them and because of that they spare his life multiple times. He’s also a “wolf”, but not a savage.

If we’re playing identity politics for this story, there are a couple Aryans, the white establishment (cops), Native-Americans and an African-American..all living in the land of wolves.

  • Nobody

Is Jay aware of the original Japanese “Ninja Warrior” show? The American version might feature better athletes, but I always thought the Japanese one was much more entertaining. I miss watching that show.

  • Film Gob

Junk Mail returns. Hilarity ensues. Coincidence i think not.

  • optimuspigg6969

Wait, Frank’s never been on Leviathan?!?

    You’re DONE, Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudd!

  • devolutionary

It seems really clear to me that Frank struggled to follow “Hold the Dark” and because he didn’t retain many of the hints throughout (falling asleep 3x), refuses to research the idea of animal infanticide and how it may psychologically correlate to humans. There are many reasons why animals might do it, and research into human behaviour is even more misunderstood because it’s deemed taboo.

  • devolutionary

Yeah, the first clue for me was when Vernon (Skarsgard) oddly thanks Russell (Rush) w/o suspicion and shakes his hand for finding the child before brutally “savaging” the cops during the investigation.

  • Isildur_of_Numenor

The wife also says that she knew her husband all her life or something to that effect, also pointing in that direction.

  • pcch7

japanese game shows overall are great

  • kent88

I’m starting to think that there needs to be an impartial Film Junk Investigative Committee that can sort out all of these recurring controversies. Jay clearly lied about the rollercoasters and lying under podcast should be a felony #RollerCoasterGate #ImpeachCheel

  • Beat_C

another great episode. jay is such a weasel.

  • Indianamcclain

Frank’s review of Hold The Dark reflects how I felt about the majority of Twin Peaks: The Return. Boring, pretentious, and lingers on nothing.

  • Indianamcclain

Now that I’m thinking about knifing someone in the head does seem like something Jason Vorhees would do.

  • samlam

    YOU’RE DONE, BUD

  • MartyMcFlyJr

Junk mail has been the catalyst for so many amazing discussions. It needs to come back on a regular basis

  • Mister Quigley Jr.

God damn, Frank pronouncing the new Joker film “The Yoker” like Joaquin is still cracking me up a day later.

  • From where I am in Canada, only just over 2 hours away. I’ve also never been on a DIVE coaster!

  • Falsk

Over the many years I’ve listened to FJ I’ve unconsciously adopted a lot of their quirks and sayings, at one point accidentally dropping “cynical boner” during a conversation at work (oops). If it wasn’t already, “you’re done, bud” is in full rotation now.
