Dark Phoenix Trailer

darkphoenix

When it was announced back in March that the next X-Men movie would be pushed back to 2019 along with New Mutants, it seemed like a sign of bad things to come. As you might expect, both movies had major reshoots lined up, but now this week the first trailer for Dark Phoenix has arrived, and perhaps the biggest surprise is that it will not actually have X-Men in the title. The reason for that remains unclear, but it has been stated that it may have a different feel than the previous films, one that is more dramatic and grounded. The movie is bringing back a solid cast that includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, although it seems like Sophie Turner and Tye Sheridan will get a lot more focus for obvious reasons. Jessica Chastain also joins the cast as an unknown character named Smith. That being said, this is a fan favourite story arc that should be generating a lot of excitement, and yet something about it just feels a bit stale. Dark Phoenix is directed by Simon Kinberg and hits theatres on Feb. 14th; check out the first trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

I bet Jay won’t want to watch this lol.

  • Jake

Kinberg has been writing the X-Men movies since Last Stand. Finally gets to direct one and he drops the X-Men title, lol. Frank is going to hate this complete slap in the face to the franchise cred. Although to be fair I guess this trend already started with Logan.

  • This movie comes way too soon to have the audience really give a shit about Jean who was merely a side character in “Apocalypse”.

I think Sophie Turner is not a strong enough actress to carry this part the way it would be necessary. But overall the franchise is tired and i’m not really interested in Dark Phoenix.

Completely off topic, but everyone should watch Hold The Dark. It’s the movie of the year for me and i don’t want anyone else to miss out. It’s deserving of it’s own Podcast episode.

Also, totally in on Dark Phoenix!

i like her, but she wasn’t very good in “apocalypse”. and the fact she has hardly any lines in this trailer suggests the same for this movie.
