Henry Cavill Reportedly Done Playing Superman in the DC Universe

We’ve been hearing rumours for quite a while now that Ben Affleck may be done playing Batman on the big screen but up until now they have remained exactly that… just rumours. While we still have no update on that particular situation, this week we are hearing that the Justice League has actually lost another key member. After playing Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, it looks as though Henry Cavill is officially stepping away from the DCEU for good. Hit the jump for more details.

According to THR, Warner Brothers had been trying to arrange a Superman cameo in their upcoming film Shazam!, which hits theatres on April 5. Unfortunately, negotiations for the cameo broke down and have essentially led to both sides walking away for good. Although some sources have said the talks broke down because of scheduling issues, it seems like Warners are eager to take the DCEU in a new direction anyway.

In particular, they already announced plans for a Supergirl movie just last month. Perhaps they are hoping that she will take Superman’s place in the Justice League line-up, but it remains unclear if they are planning to replace any of the other existing members. Something tells me that a lot is riding on James Wan’s Aquaman, although I seriously doubt they will replace Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman anytime soon. Are you disappointed by Henry Cavill’s potential departure or do you think this is the best decision for everyone involved?

Kind of a shame. He was a good Superman and, if given good writing/direction, could’ve been great.

Whew, finally. Now I can get the CGI/Frankensteined Christopher Reeves incarnation I’ve been waiting for. You know it’s coming, just like the flu.

That is to bad! Real Shame! I like HC as Supes. It was not his fault that the Man of Steel and following movies did not do well. Warners just sucks at managing their one prized franchise.

The DCEU is a mess and unfortunately the future does not look bright at all!

My recommendation, start over people! Reboot the DCEU and get someone to properly oversee a franchise that should be the equal of Marvel in both quality and monies!

Hes going to be way to busy laying pipe and slaying filthy monsters in Witcherland to worry about DC.

If this is true, can you blame him? Apparently Warner Brothers has plans for every character under the sun except Superman. The guy needs to work and they’re not offering it.

Warner Brothers has been f****** up superhero films for decades. Isn’t it ironic the one time the didn’t come in and screw a superhero franchise up with their bulls*** they got major critical acclaim and major cash?

A good actor, a good fit for the role, terrible films. HC is well rid of DC, he can move on to bigger and better things.

he and gal gadot were the only thing that didn’t feel completely wrong about the DCEU.
