Kristen Stewart to Lead Charlie’s Angels Reboot

It’s been a few years since we first heard that Elizabeth Banks had been hired to direct a big screen reboot of Charlie’s Angels, but at long last it appears that the project is finally ready to move forward. Last week Sony announced their new line-up of Angels and at the top of that list is a big name actress not necessarily known for action roles. Kristen Stewart will reportedly be headlining the film in her first major studio role since The Twilight Saga wrapped up in 2012. Hit the jump for more details.

According to Variety, Kristen Stewart has signed on to star in Charlie’s Angels for Sony Pictures along with Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) and British actress Ella Balinska (Midsomer Murders). Elizabeth Banks will direct and also co-star as Bosley, their mostly office-bound sidekick. Banks also co-wrote the latest version of the script with Jay Basu (The Girl in the Spider’s Web) while earlier drafts were penned by Craig Mazin (The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Superhero Movie) and Semi Chellas (Mad Men).

The previous big screen incarnation of Charlie’s Angels starred Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu. Kristen Stewart is definitely an an unexpected choice for a movie like this but that’s not to say she can’t pull it off. Outside of Twilight, she has action experience from movies like Snow White and the Huntsman and American Ultra. That being said, it will also depend on her comedic abilities and chemistry with the other two Angels. Are you looking forward to a new take on Charlie’s Angels?

I give KS props for at least trying different genres and projects – she’s not afraid to experiment and the directors sure aren’t afraid to cast her.

“…it will also depend on her comedic abilities… ” I spit my water when I read that line, Sean. Has everyone seen the meme of KS attempting to shake ketchup out of a squeeze bottle?!?

Ummm not sure what to expect. The reboot movie was a long time ago and the 2011 reboot on television bombed and I’m not even sure it made it past a whole season.

Regardless of whether KS is involved, are people really interested anymore in a CA movie?
