Shazam! Trailer

shazam

Along with the first Aquaman trailer, this weekend Warner Brothers and DC also unveiled the very first trailer for Shazam! at Comic-Con. The movie revolves around Billy Batson, a 14-year-old foster kid who is granted the ability to transform into an adult superhero (played by Zachary Levi) just by uttering the magic word “Shazam!”. The movie seems to have a lot of fun exploring all of the things a kid would do after gaining superpowers and in that sense it is a welcome change of pace for the otherwise dark DC Universe. The heavy focus on comic relief does, however, also bring back memories of the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie which is not necessarily a good thing. Directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out), Shazam! hits theatres on April 5th, 2019. Check out the first trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

This looks dumb as fuck but in a good way, so i’m sure i’ll watch this opening weekend and not hate myself afterwards.

OMG ok that look bad??? Not sure what to make of this…Humor is good for Super heroes but this looks like a…not sure what to make of this…

  • Kind of like Big in the superhero genre. Could be fun (probably won’t be though).

Looks dumb but at least it’s not ‘dark and gritty’. So over that.

The last 5 seconds of this trailer gives a clue as to the 2 ways they might be thinking of taking this. In one shot he’s walking out of the store with a 6-pack of beers which I think is great (I’m a kid that can transform into an adult superhero and one of the first things I realise I can do is buy alcohol – sweet!) but in the next shot he’s walking in front of the same store with an armful of candy and chips…are they already anticipating SJW backlash if there’s anything in this slightly distasteful, “concerning” in the test screenings?

Somehow, bear with me on this, if Jonah Hill was a little fitter, I could so see him playing the lead.

    Good catch.

I’m sorry this looks awesome. I had pretty much written this off a couple of months ago. But that was a great trailer – a little long on essentially the entire origin story in the first minute – but otherwise a home run. It will have its own identity, looks like they nailed the kid as grown up/superhero humor and I wasn’t familiar with Levi prior to this point but it looks like he can pull off role. SO as long as all the good bits aren’t in the trailer…
