If superheroes aren’t your thing, Warner Brothers also has you covered at this year’s Comic-Con, having just released the first trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. This is Legendary Entertainment’s follow-up to the Gareth Edwards’ 2014 film and it follows through on the idea that there are now multiple monsters (sorry, titans) in this world as the cryptozoological agency Monarch tries to study them and ultimately save humanity from them. We get our first glimpses of Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah here as well as a cast led by Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, Charles Dance, Ziyi Zhang, Thomas Middleditch, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Ken Watanabe. Directed by Michael Dougherty (Krampus), Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theatres on May 31st, 2019. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

As this is directed by the chap who made Krampus, will there be a 40 minute debate around the correct pronunciation of Godzilla?

Trailer is good, but that doesn’t mean the movie won’t suck, the last Godzilla movie had a fantastic trailer too. That being said, the reveal of Mothra here is stunning, and I like this cast way more than the last one.

Claude Debussy’s Clair de Lune for a Godzilla trailer is inspired. That being said, I’m not sure how you put that excellent piece of music in the actual movie. They do have the bad guy from Last Action Hero in there however, possibly to make up for that.

Having to find and utilize the power of giant demonic looking titans to save the earth from environmental catastrophe savors of Mayan witchdoctorism. There’s a shot of a guy making the Sign of the Cross and perhaps he’s attempting to ward off a titan version of Mayan feathered serpent god Quetzalcoatl.

Huh, science said the Earth was filled with diamonds, not kaiju.

  • Lisa V Benson

    Nice job on the trailer.

  • Sam

    It’s Gojira!

  • Larry Morgan

This is the most focus-grouped cast I have ever seen.
