Aquaman Trailer

aquaman

Debuting this afternoon at the Warner Brothers Comic-Con panel in Hall H, here is the first trailer for DC”s Aquaman. With the current state of the DC Extended Universe there could be a lot riding on this project, but director James Wan (Furious 7) has been promising fans a different kind of comic book movie. And indeed, some of the underwater sequences in this trailer do look quite unique and beautiful. That being said, it still feels like they are trying a little too hard to make this once goofy superhero the ultimate badass. Aquaman co-stars Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and it hits theatres on Dec. 21st; check out the first trailer after the jump and see what you think.

This looks dumb as fuck but i’ll probably still watch it opening weekend and hate myself afterwards.

It doesn’t look more or less silly than Marvel’s Thor, I find many similarities between these two. I mean, the first Thor was very silly.
It will work if it doesn’t take itself too seriously. And even though there are some quips here and there, it’s hard to tell from the trailer. But I’ve got a feeling this would’ve worked better as a low-budget superhero comedy than a big spectacle with tons of CGI. But there is no chance for that.

I remember the Aquaman running joke that they had in HBO’s Entourage years ago. I never really liked Entourage, but I thought the Aquaman joke (directed by James Cameron!) was amusing. It was a sort of general statement of “here, Hollywood is making a ridiculous movie”. It was a joke. That was years before the comic-book movie craze. Now Hollywood is actually making it.

Wait, has DC finally literally jumped the shark?

I have a hard time not laughing, but it doesn’t look like a comedy.
