Film Junk Premium Podcast #66: The Purge Trilogy

purgetrilogy

“Get ready to bleed, rich bitches! This is our time now!” With The First Purge hitting theatres last weekend and a Purge TV series coming in September, it felt like it was time for Film Junk to finally catch up on The Purge franchise (which, up until now, we have mostly overlooked). We went back and watched the first three films in the original trilogy, tracing the franchise’s unassuming start as a simple home invasion thriller to a series of action films with heavy political undertones. We also do an exhaustive deep dive into the logistics of The Purge and ponder whether such a thing could ever happen in reality. So is this the franchise that allowed Blumhouse to become the genre powerhouse that it is today? What would life be like on the other 364 days of the year? Most importantly, what would each member of the Film Junk crew do on the night of The Purge? Release the beast and download this month’s premium podcast below.

This episode was a great how-to for Blumhouse on making a consistently fun, if not at-least insanely interesting concept.

I would gladly watch a Purge movie screenwritten by the FJ crew and directed by Mr. Jay Cheel. Make it 3 hrs, I don’t care. Call it “The Urge to Purge”!

    Great Premium fellas!

  • Colin

Easily one of the best premiums in recent memory. Bravo, boys

  • Z

Best premium in years, so so hilarious.

  • Brian.M

The comments below make me want to watch this series first, so that I can then download this premium. Looking forward to it.

  • Lori Cerny

    Wait a minute.

So, for like thirteen years, everytime you guys have recorded a podcast, you’re all in your socks or bare feet?!? What the fuck! That is gross.

As a representative American, that has completely blown my mind and I may have to unsubscribe immediately.

  • LongSlog

I think it’s a dry vs wet country sort of deal. In Canada there’s only like 2 months of the year where it’s probably nice outside and not snow or rain, so if you were to come in from outside you can’t stomp around your house in your boots/wet shoes. Northern states likely have the same customs. Shoes outside, socks and feet inside.

The idea of people wearing their shoes around the house (unless it’s like, a a massive house party where the floors are going to be gross anyway, or a cottage or something) is super gross.

Are socks gross? I know some people are grossed out by feet in general, but incasing smelly feet in shoes just makes the situation worse.

Seeing people wear shoes in their kitchen is borderline gross but when I see Americans on film or TV with their shoes on while SITTING IN THEIR BED, I can’t stand it. Shoes are gross, who knows what sort of weird stuff you’ve been stepping on out there.

Is Frank possessed by Diabolus? Diabolus, who holds frank in his thrall by the influence of the third star?

  • Jr

Totally. I’ve been trying to get my wife to take her shoes off at the door for years. What’s grosser, your socks or everything you’ve been walking in outside all day on the bottom of your shoes? I do it the Japanese way. Shoes off at the door, house slippers on.

  • Don’t care about The Purge but happy to listen to Film Junk.

  • Optimus_Pigg

Another great premium. Frank seemed really jacked up to pod.

Would’ve been nice to hear Zach Bronson, isn’t he a Purge head?

    Thanks guys!

  • Sean

Tried to get Zak on but unfortunately our schedules didn’t align. Hopefully we’ll have him on the regular show sometime in the near future to give his take on the Purge.

  • I was a little skeptical about how worthy this was of a premium, but I was dead wrong – instant classic!

  • Essie

    Thank you very much.

Jay. TCAP is like one of my favorite youtube rabbit holes. Have you seen Jeff Stacey’s police interview? It is worth a peek. You played his clip in this show.

  • Deven Science

I was confused and shocked by this, as well. Are shoes indoors only an American thing? Yes, I wear shoes like 90% of the time. Didn’t realize that was weird.

  • Kasper

This was my favorite premium in years. Fantastic ep!

  • parapa

It’s definitely weird. Socks exist for a reason, why would you want the disgusting streets spread all around your house

  • parapa

One of the best premiums, and I haven’t even seen any of the Purge movies. Thanks for the great podcasts guys!
