Extinction Trailer: Michael Pena and Lizzy Caplan Face an Alien Invasion

extinction

Netflix’s track record with original movies over the past year or two has not been great, but it certainly doesn’t help when they happily pick up unwanted castoffs from other studios as well. We already saw what happened when they released The Cloverfield Paradox earlier this year and now they are set to drop Extinction, an alien invasion thriller that Universal axed from its release schedule last year. The movie does have a solid cast in Michael Pena, Lizzy Caplan and Mike Colter as well as an intriguing director (Ben Young, who previously helmed Hounds of Love) so perhaps this won’t be a complete letdown? Extinction arrives on Netflix on July 27th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Oh good… cast comedic actors in serious roles. That’s always a good idea.

    This looks like trashhhhhh

Creatures from outer space??? I’m in!

    Lizzy Caplan is a gem.

Off the top of my head, casting “comedic” actors in serious roles definitely worked for:

    Adam Sandler
    Robin Williams
    Carol Burnett
    Steve Martin
    Steve Carell
    Mary Tyler Moore
    Bill Murray
    Dan Aykroyd
    Jim Carrey
    Whoopi Goldberg

Hopefully, Melissa McCarthy’s newest “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”

And, probably many, many more. They say drama is easy, while comedy is hard, which is why we don’t yuck it up at Pacino, Brando, Olivier, or Lewis.

Don’t know if Pena is a lead, but I’ll watch ANY Sci-Fi.
