Less than a month after ABC decided to cancel Roseanne as a result of a racist tweet by Roseanne Barr, ABC has found a way to bring back the show without her involvement. This week the network has announced a series order for a new spin-off tentatively titled The Conners. All of the primary cast members minus Roseanne will be returning, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman, along with the same creative team behind the scenes. The cast had this to say about the announcement:

“We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

Roseanne Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the new show, but says she “agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved.” It is not yet known how they will explain her character’s absence on the show. The first season of The Conners will consist of 10 episodes and is expected to air in fall 2018, taking over Roseanne‘s Tuesday evening time slot. Are you happy to see The Conners return to television without Roseanne?

Just erase the other seasons by making it all a book like they did with the crazy season 9. The first episode can open with Dan or Jackie sitting at a computer finishing the latest edition of “The Crazy Adventures of Roseanne and Family”

So it’s going to be like Steve Carell leaving “The Office”.

    That worked out well.

Hmm, I’m hoping for her actually dying in an episode; actually bring Barr in for a deathbed cameo. That would give her a chance to say goodbye to her family and the audience.

But more so, it would give the award-winning talent of Goodman and Metcalf a chance to shine. It could be one of those “A very special episode of… The Connors.”
