James Mangold to Direct Star Wars Boba Fett Spin-Off

We’ve been waiting for a while now to hear an official announcement about the next Star Wars prequel or spin-off movie with recent rumours continuing to indicate that an Obi-Wan movie is imminent with Stephen Daldry (The Reader) attached to direct. However, this week we have an exciting development in one of the other origin stories being concocted. It sounds like a Boba Fett movie may be the next Star Wars story on the way with Logan director James Mangold at the helm. Hit the jump for more details.

According to THR, James Mangold (Logan, Walk the Line) is writing and will direct a Star Wars standalone movie centered on fan favourite bounty hunter Boba Fett. Long-time X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is believed to be co-writing the script with Mangold and also producing the film. Kinberg has been involved in this particular project ever since Josh Trank was attached to direct, although he was eventually parted ways due to “creative differences.”

Opinion seems to be split over whether a Boba Fett movie is a good idea. There is certainly plenty of room to fill in the blanks although one of the things that has made him such a popular character over the years is the mystery behind him. Then again, George Lucas already ruined some of that mystique with Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. Are you looking forward to a Boba Fett movie?

I believe it was Dax that said on a older episode that this might not be the best idea. I would have to agree with that.

    Who asked for this? Seriously…

  • I wish they would use their access to talent to make some Knights of the Old Republic type stories… Or just take the world of Star Wars and tell an entirely new story with 100% new characters. I know Rian Johnson is working on a new trilogy, but I’ll be shocked if it’s not tied to existing characters somehow.

Disney will milk this cow until it’s tits fall off.
