Rambo 5 Back on Again, Sylvester Stallone Set to Return

With Creed II currently in production in Philadelphia, Sylvester Stallone is also once again looking to return to that other action franchise that made him a huge star. We’ve been hearing a lot of conflicting reports about the future of the Rambo franchise over the last few years with a TV show previously reported to be in development both with and without him and, most recently, a big screen reboot also being planned without him. This week, however, we are hearing that he is back on board for a proper Rambo sequel and that he will also be involved creatively as well. Hit the jump to find out what we know.

According to Screen Daily, Sylvester Stallone is set to return for Rambo V, which is currently being shopped at Cannes this month with expected production start date of September 1st. The screenplay was written by Matt Cirulnick (Absentia, South Beach), although some sources are reporting that Stallone himself is also working on the script. Avi Lerner and Kevin King will produce while Millennium is financing and handling worldwide sales. The plot synopsis is as follows:

“Stallone’s return to action in the long-running series finds him living in a ranch in Arizona, deeply troubled and wrestling with PTSD as he picks up casual work wherever he can. When long-time family friend and estate manager Maria informs Rambo that her grand-daughter has gone missing after crossing into Mexico for a party, he sets off with her to find the youngster. What ensues is a violent descent into hell as Rambo uncovers a sex-trafficking ring. He teams up with a journalist whose half-sister has also been kidnapped and must deploy all his skills to save the girls and bring down a vicious crime lord.”

We’ve been hearing for years now that the fifth Rambo movie might find John Rambo going up against a Mexican cartel so it sounds like that is the same story they are going with here. Previous reports stated that the movie would also be called Rambo: Last Blood, although it is unclear if that is still the case. We also don’t know who might direct but it sounds like it probably won’t be Stallone. Are you looking forward to Rambo V?
