New to Theatres This Weekend: The Avengers: Infinity War, Kings, Let the Sunshine In

Well there is really just one major release hitting theatres this weekend (and, let’s be honest, for the next couple of weekends as well) but it is expected to be one of the biggest movies of all time. Can The Avengers: Infinity War challenge Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the biggest opening weekend of all time? It’s a pretty tall order, but it definitely seems within reach. Reviews have been positive but not quite as effusive as the last few Marvel films. In select theatres, the few alternatives include the L.A. Riots drama Kings starring Halle Berry and Daniel Craig, Claire Denis’ Let the Sunshine In starring Juliette Binoche and Disobedience starring Rachel Weisz. What will you be watching this weekend? And if you’ve already seen Infinity War, what did you think?

I did not care for Infinity War. Too much going on with more to come and a lot to not care about. My full thoughts are on Letterboxd.

I quite liked it – certainly more than the 2 previous Avengers movies.

I didn’t care for it much either, but i’m too old for frenetic CGI fest movies. Mark Kemode summed it all up nicely in his spoiler free review. I’d recommend giving that a listen.

These movies have no atmosphere. Remember the Jurassic Park T-Rex breakout scene? The escape attempt in the rain? So much atmosphere that’s so sorely lacking in IW.

I do hope everybody blows their load on Avengers Infinity Ward which is going to make 500 billion dollars and shoot up to the top of the IMDB 250 list overtaking such trivial films as The Godfather and Star Wars so Hollywood can go back to making real movies again. This has become so tedious.
