The Tale Trailer Starring Laura Dern

Aside from Sam Levinson’s horror-comedy Assassination Nation, the biggest acquisition at Sundance this year was a drama called The Tale starring Laura Dern. In what seems to be a sign of the times, the movie won’t even be coming to theatres as it was acquired by HBO for a reported $7 million. Written and directed by Jennifer Fox, it is an autobiographical story of a journalist investigating and coming to terms with memories of her own childhood abuse. With a cast that includes Elizabeth Debicki, Ellen Burstyn, Jason Ritter, Laura Allen, Frances Conroy, John Heard and Common, word on the street is that it is haunting and powerful and possibly could have even been an Oscar contender if it had not gone straight to HBO. The Tale arrives on HBO on May 26th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
