With all of the other Stanley Kubrick-related festivities going on next month for the 50th anniversary of 2001: A Space Odyssey, here is one more thing that may be of interest to Kubrick enthusiasts. Kino Lorber will release Tony Zierra’s Filmworker, a documentary about Stanley Kubrick’s personal assistant Leon Vitali. Vitali met Kubrick after being cast as Lord Bullingdon in Barry Lyndon and the two hit it off, prompting Kubrick to invite Vitali to accompany him on his future films. Vitali went on to become a driving force behind his final three films (The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and Eyes Wide Shut) and later he would spearhead a movement to preserve Kubrick’s work after his death. Filmworker hits select theatres on May 11th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
