Bourne Spin-Off TV Series in the Works

Film Title: Jason Bourne

After the somewhat lacklustre response to Jason Bourne in 2016, the future of the Bourne franchise has remained uncertain. Producer Frank Marshall initially seemed optimistic about setting up another sequel with Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass, but last year Damon himself was less hopeful. Justin Lin was also once attached to direct a follow-up to The Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner, but that is also pretty much dead. This week, however, we are hearing that Bourne might be resurrected in a different format. A Bourne-related TV series called Treadstone is in development at the USA Network and the basic synopsis is as follows:

“The project explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone, a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins. Jason Bourne, the central character in Universal Pictures’ Bourne film franchise, was a product of the program. The series follows new sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously ‘awakened’ to resume their deadly missions.”

This is just one of four new pilots ordered by the USA Network and Tim Kring (Heroes) is on board to write and executive produce the show. Ramin Bahrani (Fahrenheit 451, 99 Homes) will direct the pilot and also serve as an executive producer as well. It feels like a logical way to follow up the Bourne series, especially since they have already introduced the idea of there being many agents in the program aside from Jason Bourne himself. It seems safe to assume, however, that Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner will not be involved. Do you have any interest in a Bourne spin-off series and are you disappointed that we may not get another movie?
