Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer #2

solotrailer2

With all the reshoots and last-minute tinkering going on, Disney and Lucasfilm have been somewhat slow to mobilize their marketing campaign for Solo: A Star Wars Story. This week, however, a new trailer has finally arrived online and it offers the best look yet at this hotly debated Han Solo prequel. The story is still somewhat unknown, but it certainly seems to be a heist movie of sorts (then again, that’s what they said about Rogue One as well). We do get to see more of the supporting cast including Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke as Han’s childhood friend Qi’ra, and Woody Harrelson as Beckett, a criminal mentor to Han. But by far the most scrutiny is on Alden Ehrenreich in the lead role, and it’s still not really clear if he has found that Harrison Ford swagger or not. Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theatres on May 25th; check out the new trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Looks pretty good to me. Ehrenreich comes off much better in this trailer and I like the humor in this iteration.

  • newtaurus

Fair or unfair, Ehrenreich is always going to be compared to Harrison Ford. It happens to a lot of actors who portray characters that have stood the test of time.

Chewie straight up murders a dude near the end of the trailer with a 180 arc from feet on floor to head on floor plus soundtrack crunch sound! Doesn’t look like a droid neither!

    Folks, here are the questions:

Are Kennedy and Howard going Fucking DARK on this one?

Were the previous directors tossed because with their comedy backgrounds, they just could not get to the dark, dark tone of this movie, which is just shy of an R-rated SW movie ala The Wild Bunch?

Has Ronnie aged into a cynical old man who wants to show the dark underbelly of the galaxy?!

Is KK sick of kowtowing to her Disney bosses and sick of the conservative male criticism?

Will there be some GoT objectification of women on her command?

Don’t be surprised if there’s a near-rape in this one, and some Me-Too stuff against either Han or Lando or Chewie. Remember these males came to power in the late 70s early 80s when such behavior was rampant.

Given the side characters like Harrelson as a cynical vet. smuggler, Glover as Lando, and the lady-voiced robot, PLUS the most stand-alone Star Wars movie ever, I’m actually more on board for this one than the last three Disney flicks- could we have a completely Force free Star Wars universe movie? We will find out in a few weeks.

    Here are the answers:

    I don’t think so.

I think they were “tossed” because they probably changed the Star Wars DNA too much, whatever that means.

Nah. Ronnie is a nice guy.

I have a feeling Kennedy has a lot of freedom with these projects and she calls the shots for the most part.

I don’t think Star Wars ever objectified women, Lea’s bikini scene not withstanding (made sense in context).

Of course, I may be wrong on all of the above.

    Pretty good trailer.

If it ain’t dead, it sure is dying.

Horrible digital cinematography. Didn’t JJ give Lucasfilm an thorough lesson in the objective superiority of film with TFA? Absolute clowns.

Thank you. Maybe I got too speculative. I appreciate your thoughtful response.
