The House with a Clock in Its Walls Trailer

After releasing his first studio film earlier this month with Death Wish, Eli Roth is continuing to play within a bigger budget sandbox, this time taking on the PG-13 horror movie The House with a Clock in Its Walls. Based on the classic children’s book written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey, the movie revolves around a 10-year-old boy named Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle Jonathan (Jack Black) in a creepy old house that is full of dark secrets. This is an Amblin co-production and looks to fall in the same zone as some of the darker “family-friendly” genre movies we grew up with in the ’80s, although it definitely has a sense of humour as well. Cate Blanchett, Kyle MacLachlan, Colleen Camp, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Vanessa Anne Williams and Sunny Suljic also co-star. The House with a Clock in Its Walls hits theatres on Sept. 21st; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Oh man I loved this book as a child! Loved the series! My older sisters turned me onto these books and I never looked back! But man I did not know Roth was directing this! Bleah!!!!

The tone, the look and the actors ( though I love Black and Blanchett ) seem horribly wrong! Plus Lewis is supposed to be a much heavier set kid…sigh a child story possibly ruined by Roth/Hollywood? I hope not.
