Mackenzie Davis in Talks for Next Terminator Movie

The debate over whether Terminator: Genisys should be a considered a success or failure rages on, but ultimately it is somewhat irrelevant because Annapurna Pictures and Skydance Productions still have the rights to make at least one more Terminator movie and that’s exactly what they are going to do. It was announced last year that Deadpool director Tim Miller would helm the new movie and that it would be a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day with James Cameron contributing creatively. Arnold Schwarzenegger is confirmed to be returning along with Linda Hamilton, but now this week we have our first new addition to the cast. Hit the jump for more info.

According to Variety, Mackenzie Davis is in talks to star in the upcoming sixth Terminator film for Skydance Productions. She is best known for roles in AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire series and the San Junipero episode of Black Mirror, plus big screen appearances in Blade Runner 2049 and The Martian. Details are slim but THR is reporting that her character is human and “a soldier-assassin on a mission” although she is not the main protagonist of the movie. That role is intended for a Latina actor and the search is still underway.

The script for the new movie is being written by Billy Ray (Captain Phillips) based on a story by James Cameron, Tim Miller and Skydance founder David Ellison. The original draft of the script was a result of a writers room that consisted of Josh Friedman (The Sarah Connor Chronicles), David S. Goyer (Batman Begins), Charles Eglee (Dark Angel) and Justin Rhodes (Green Lantern Corps). The new Terminator movie is expected to start production this summer and is scheduled to hit theatres on July 26th, 2019. Do you have high hopes for a new Terminator movie?
