Quentin Tarantino’s #9 Gets a Title and Release Date, Brad Pitt Confirmed

After months of speculation, Sony has finally issued an official press release confirming a title, release date and some additional details about Quentin Tarantino’s next film, which they won the rights to back in November. Up until now, the movie has been referred to simply as “#9″ because it is his ninth feature film, but it was previously announced that the movie would be set in Los Angeles circa 1969 with the Manson Family murders serving as a backdrop for the story. Now this week we have learned that the movie is called Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Brad Pitt has officially joined the cast to star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. Here’s what Tarantino had to say about it:

“[It is] a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor… Sharon Tate.

I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old. I’m very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff.”

Last we heard, Margot Robbie was the top choice to play Sharon Tate but her casting still has yet to be confirmed. Tom Cruise and Al Pacino have also been rumoured but it is unclear if they were wanted for the same roles as DiCaprio and Pitt. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is scheduled to hit theatres on August 9th, 2019. What do you think of the title and casting thus far?

So far I like the casting.

Very groovy. He also needs to get some 4 blurays out for his films

  • Flo Lieb

I don’t know if I buy Pitt as DiCaprio’s stunt double.

  • Lori Cerny

I can almost smell the incense and peppermints.

Maybe QT is slyly referencing Spaceballs?

  • Flo Lieb

Maybe. It’s the 60’s so maybe they shot stunt stuff from a wider angle back then which explains it.
