Chris Hemsworth in Talks for Men in Black Reboot

With the recent success of Thor: Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth proved that he could handle action and comedy in equal measures. Now it looks like he is being courted to headline the upcoming reboot of another big blockbuster franchise that is known for mixing action and comedy. Last month Sony started getting serious about developing a new Men in Black movie, one that would not be a direct sequel to the original trilogy with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. We are hearing this week that Hemsworth is the man they are looking at to anchor the series moving forward. Hit the jump to find out what we know.

According to THR, Chris Hemsworth is in early negotiations to star in an untitled Men in Black reboot for Sony Pictures. F. Gary Gray (The Fate of the Furious) is now attached to direct the movie from a script by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum (Iron Man). Plot details are still unknown but the plan is to reboot the series by expanding on the universe seen in the first three films with a different set of characters. The movie is slated to hit theatres on June 14th, 2019.

As we have come to expect from most blockbusters nowadays, they are looking to assemble a diverse ensemble cast and take them on a global adventure. In particular, the main protagonists are said to be “a white male, a female of color and an older man.” Hemsworth has also starred in a handful of other comedies recently including Ghostbusters, Vacation and the fake Dundee trailers, so he seems to have an interest in getting away from pure action roles. Do you think Chris Hemsworth is a good choice to carry a new series of Men in Black films?

Maybe all the people who have been crying out for a Men In Black reboot can finally shut up.

  • Lori Cerny

Well, that’d be me. Not a fan of Hemsworth, but rebooting the series is a good idea; MIB2 and MIB3 sucked.
