Kristen Wiig Circling Wonder Woman 2 Villain Role

People may not have a lot of confidence in the DC Extended Universe right now, but the one upcoming DC project that people still seem to be pretty excited about is Wonder Woman 2. With Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins both set to return, the only question is whether they can repeat the success of the first film and perhaps even improve on it. Fortunately, based on the latest news it sounds like they may be heading in the right direction. One of the less memorable elements of the original was arguably the villain, but this week we are hearing that they’ve got one of Wonder Woman’s most iconic arch-enemies lined up for the sequel along with a somewhat unexpected actor to bring her to life. Hit the jump for the full scoop.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros and DC are in talks with Kristen Wiig to play the primary villain in Wonder Woman 2. We are hearing that she is being courted to play long-time nemesis Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah. The character was first introduced in the 1943 but was revamped in the ’80s as a British anthropologist and heiress who gains her powers after an expedition to an African jungle.

The script for Wonder Woman 2 is being written by Patty Jenkins, DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns and David Callaham (The Expendables) and from what we know it will jump forward a few decades to the ’80s and the Cold War. Of course, how Cheetah will fit into all that remains to be seen. Kristen Wiig is obviously known more for her comedic roles (including a villainous turn in Zoolander 2) but she has done some dramatic work in smaller indie films in recent years. Do you think Kristen Wiig is a solid choice to play Cheetah?
