Monday Morning Box Office Report: Black Panther Still Killing It

Marvel’s Black Panther showed no sign of weakness over the weekend as the movie added another $108 million to its domestic total on its way to the second highest second weekend ever (behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens). It also beat The Avengers with the best seven day run of any Marvel movie to date. The movie has grossed $704 million worldwide and it still has yet to open in several major markets, so it isn’t crazy to think it might become the biggest comic book movie ever. In second place, the new R-rated comedy Game Night pulled in a respectable $16.6 million, followed by Peter Rabbit with $12.5 million. Annihilation opened in fourth place with a less than stellar $11 million, seemingly justifying Paramount’s decision to sell off the rights to Netflix overseas. With a CinemaScore of “C”, it is not expected to have much staying power and would have a hard time making back its $40 million budget otherwise. Elsewhere Fifty Shades Freed rounded out the top five with $6.9 million and I have absolutely no comment on that.

1. Black Panther — $108M
2. Game Night — $16.6M
3. Peter Rabbit — $12.5M
4. Annihilation — $11M
5. Fifty Shades Freed — $6.9M
6. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle — $5.7M
7. The 15:17 to Paris — $3.6M
8. The Greatest Showman — $3.4M
9. Every Day — $3.1M
10. Early Man — $1.7M

$11m for Annihilation doesn’t bode well for a 4k physical release.
