SodaGeeks Episode 87 Pickle Flavored Soda & San Francisco Fog, Featuring Jay Cheel of Film Junk

  • Essie

    thank you

  • Tommy

Punch Drunk Love is a great looking comedy.
And then there’s all the Technicolor musical comedies if you wanna count them. I just saw An American In Paris and it knocked my balls off.

  • Tommy

4k w/o HDR is questionable when movies still mostly come out in 2k. You might get good use out of it with Netflix originals or >HD video games.

  • Tommy

    Cum classics:
    The Doom Generation
    Freddy Got Fingered

  • Peter Harrison

I’m 100% with Frank; Letterman is BRUTAL on MNGNNI! That Clooney ep. was gross – I don’t need to have an hour of how glorious Georgie is. He needs the shit ripped out of him, and Dave is too close and too much of a fan to ask anything interesting! The From Dusk Til Dawn stuff being discussed would be interesting, but Letterman isn’t exactly Tim Russet; George would slip out some BS and wriggle off the hook easily. Bad content!

  • Newtman98

    Somebody should start a Wadcast

  • Newtman98

    Ghostbusters is fantastic looking.

  • Newtman98

Was the bad beard Dave Franco in The Disaster Artist? I haven’t seen it yet so I don’t know if it was supposed to be a fake beard.

  • Samb

Jay mentioned Andrew Garfield and I thought of Silence and its double bad-beardedness.

  • Samb

More in the spirit of the boys’ answers than the question, The Ice Storm ended with a bang — Kevin Kline bursting into tears in the car, cut to black. I remember it vividly because I thought it was borderline unfair to have the house lights come on at the exact moment of tear droppage. I needed a minute, Ang Lee!

  • Craig

Bill Burr is the king of making his advertisement funny, so much so that recently he’s lost a couple of sponsors by offending them.

    “Doctor Carver’s easy shave BUTTAH”

  • smitty

I came for the talk about “the scene”

    but I…came…from the Wendy’s talk.

  • milan

TOOTSIE is a great looking comedy, all the older comedy movies look like proper movies…

  • traie

Jay, did you forget about the cum scene in Ken Park?

  • Lori Cerny

What specifically convinced Frank to watch a VOD horror film?

  • devolutionary

Trailer must’ve “hooked” him. My guess is he mistakenly left the remote too far away from his couch during Netflix autoqueue and had the TV on mute.

  • Tommy

I’ve got a pure comedy podcast rec for Jay : Big Grande’s Teacher’s Lounge. No interview segments, nothing in reality.

  • Bill

Halloween by Rob Zombie and Bad Lieutenant end pretty abruptly after gunshots.

  • devolutionary

The best is when he “stirs that pot” and intentionally drags his wife into on-air arguments. “Heeey laaaaaaa-dy!”

  • devolutionary

Movies end with a bang (literal or otherwise)?:
Drag Me To Hell (You guys mentioned but didn’t suggest)
    There Will Be Blood
    The Long Goodbye
    Throne of Blood
And of course…The Great Train Robbery (first movie to literally end with a bang?)

  • doubledragfool

Brawl in Cell Block 99 has to be the most recent example of a perfectly abrupt BANGin’ ending.

  • Deven Science

  • Mark

Reservoir Dogs ends on a bang (Mr. White, Mr. Orange)

  • Jay check out Hardcore History. It’s pretty badass. His latest episode is about torture and executions. But the World War I one is amazing.

  • windh

    Best looking comedy: “Dr. Strangelove”.

    Case closed.

  • schizopolis

Toni Erdman, had a cum scene, plus dessert.

  • russfro

    Happiness has two cum scenes

  • Indianamcclain

Robocop, and The Fly end with a bang.

  • Kyle Grimes

Sean is such a twisted suburbia-head

  • LongSlog

I second this recommendation. While I know it IS produced, Dan Carlin does an excellent job of keeping the whole thing sounding like he’s just talking off the cuff about a subject with a bunch of books and quotes in front of him.

  • “Came” here to say this. Shocked Jay forgot about this.

  • The Departed ends with a gun shot to the head. Then there’s a shot of the rat and then credits.

  • Jay Cheel

Yeah, can’t believe I forgot about this one.

  • Jay Cheel

Yup, that’s what I was thinking of. Thanks!

  • Frankie Knuckles

I was making fun of Sean because, as he stated, he was referring to the elevator head shot, which comes much earlier.

  • Carlos

He’s also got a deep bloodlust. Guy needs help.

  • Sean

We rewatched the final scene afterwards and I guess that scene and the elevator scene must have blurred together in my mind. I knew that it essentially ended with a “bang” but the elevator scene is so much more memorable and shocking.

  • Totally. I know they spend months prepping each episode but it doesn’t feel or sound produced at all. It just feels like Uncle Dan telling you a long ass awesome story at the quiet end of the bar.

Also his voice is awesome. It sounds like a mash-up between Jay Baruchel and Albert Brooks.

  • Haha! Good call.

What was the movie where they filled up Twinkies (or something similar) with cum and game it to the teachers or the other fraternity or something like that?

  • Jameson

I was shocked no one said that. That was the first that came to mind as a recent example.

  • Jameson

The biggest BANG of an ending I can think of is old school Jimmy Cagney in White Heat. Probably my favorite gangster film of that era.

  • Matt the Kiwi

And I’ll triple this suggestion. Seeing as Jay is a bit of Sam Harris fan (big assumption here) he could start with his interview with Dan – that’s what drew me to his Hardcore History site and I was up until 3:am soaking up his podcast of the history of the nuclear age.

  • Matt the Kiwi

Would that be Van Wilder? But that was dog cum so it’s all good.

  • That sounds like it. It’s been YEARS since I’ve seen that movie.

  • pcch7

Hannah ends with a bang doesn’t it.. Been a few years since I watched but I think so

  • pcch7

I’m shocked there hasn’t been a James Cameron premium btw, that’s a good one waiting to happen

  • Brian.M

Jay’s take on produced podcasts made me laugh. A lot!

  • Beat_C

OMG yes, that was a crazy scene ????????

  • Beat_C

thank you so much for reviewing my favourite film of 2017, it was a great discussion. btw/ i thought the conversation scene in the museum where they’re constantly interrupted by noise was hilarious. and i think you can clearly see the installation of collapsing chairs that causes the noise at certain moments.
