I Feel Pretty Trailer Starring Amy Schumer

After making a strong big screen debut with Trainwreck and following it up with the less successful action-comedy Snatched, Amy Schumer is back this summer with another comedy that has a bit of a feminist edge. But is it really as empowering as it thinks it is? The movie is called I Feel Pretty and it finds Schumer playing an insecure woman who suffers a nasty bump on the head that causes her to think that she is drop dead gorgeous. In theory, this seems like it has potential to be a biting social satire, but something about the trailer does not feel right… perhaps the fact that it is hard to buy Amy Schumer as the insecure type in the first place. The writer/director team of Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein (He’s Just Not That Into You, How to Be Single) also do not necessarily inspire confidence. I Feel Pretty co-stars Michelle Williams, Emily Ratajkowski, Busy Philipps, Tom Hopper and Naomi Campbell, and it hits theatres on June 29th. The COPO was out in full force denouncing the premise, apparently this movie is worthy of outrage.

There is never enough discussion regarding the editing, marketing, and branding of movie trailers. They either give too much away or are wholly misleading. I will presciently give it a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Besides, film-making is an industry and they must keep all those actors and crew employed – churning out daily work to fill quotas and such.

Most movie comedies are Saturday Night Live skits or a Will & Grace episode stretched into 90 minutes. This looks like a perfect example.

There’s never enough material to sustain the premise for an entire film to make it entertaining never mind funny.

How stupid looking. the problem with Schumer isn’t just her insane politics or trying to pretend to mild and meek, it is that she is near 40 year old actress continuing to take roles of early 20 something office worker….
