New to Theatres This Weekend: 12 Strong, Den of Thieves, Forever My Girl

It’s a pretty quintessential January weekend at the multiplex with a lot of junk hitting theatres, most of it being stuff you probably haven’t even heard of. The Jerry Bruckheimer war movie 12 Strong starring Chris Hemsworth is the biggest of the bunch, but unimpressive reviews and lack of marketing leave it unlikely to make much of an impact. Other new movies in wide release include Den of Thieves, a crime movie starring Gerard Butler and 50 Cent, and the country music romantic drama Forever My Girl. In select theatres we also have the Russian dash cam video compilation The Road Movie and the Obama doc The Final Year plus the anime film Mary and the Witch’s Flower, produced by several former Studio Ghibli animators. Fortunately, Phantom Thread and Call Me By Your Name are finally getting significant expansions as well. What will you be watching this weekend?
