2017 Film Junk Junkers’ Choice Awards: Voting is Now Open!

As we close in on the end of the 2017, it’s time to look back and reflect on the twelve months of moviegoing that we were just forced to sit through. We’ll be unveiling our own year end lists in a couple of weeks along with the annual “Junkies”, but we always like to give all the junkers out there a chance to have their say as well. This is where the annual Junkers’ Choice Awards (formerly known as the Film Junk Readers’ Choice Awards) come into play. For your convenience, we have broken up many of the best movies of the year into a variety of completely arbitrary and highly debatable categories, and now it’s your chance to pick the winners. You have until Jan. 1st to submit your picks. Click through to view the nominees and then cast your votes in the 2017 Junkers’ Choice Awards starting right now!

I probably laughed more at: LEGO BATMAN, BABY DRIVER, and THOR RAGNAROK then at any of these options. MAMA would have been my favorite option if it was allowed.

Also, LOGAN is the, “THE MARTIAN” of this category, the most un-like a comic movie -comic movie will win, just like the least comedic comedy wins the Golden Globes.

  • Lori Cerny

    I voted!!!

I was so miserable writing Thor 3 into ‘most disappointing’

I would have liked a write in option for each category. Several categories lacked the movie I would have chosen, and I ended up leaving them blank.

  • j-diggle

That sci-fi/fantasy category is pretty ace. Wasn’t a fan of Alien but the rest were great.

I wrote Dunkirk into most disappointing. Not to be too contrarian, but simply because I thought it was the movie that disappointed me the most this year. Not the worst movie of the year, not at all, but probably the most disappointing.

  • Dirk Gently

Me too. Under-ambitious film that left me totally underwhelmed. I recommend ‘Dunkirk’ by Hugh Sebag-Montefiori, for a better look at the whole endeavor. It was clear that our Podcast hosts knew nothing about Dunkirk going into the Movie, and having watched it they will still know nothing. Nor will anyone else.

My favorite action movie is probably Wolf Warrior 2, currently 2017’s fifth biggest hit at the worldwide box office and the ultimate Chinese propaganda action movie. It’s gloriosly ridiculous and made many other action entries look tame.

There were no movies this year that struck me as very funny. I laughed harder at random episodes of Impractical Jokers.

  • Jameson

Glad you included Your Name in the animated category!

  • Beat_C

not comedy, not horror, but action must be the worst selection this year. the only movie i liked of those you listed is “dunkirk” – but i have a hard time filing this one under “action”.

  • Beat_C

i understand that. for me personally the biggest disappointment was probably also the worst movie i’ve seen this year at a theatre, and that was malick’s “song to song”.

  • Beat_C

“mama”? either you’re off by 4 years or you meant “mother!”.

  • devolutionary

I feel I voted too early without taking in all the notable nominations (ie: Killing of a Sacred Deer, Shape of Water, etc.). But I just know there’s no way I’ll see them all before New Year. *shrugs*.

  • Matt the Kiwi

Felt strange putting in Dunkirk for both the Best Movie and the Biggest Disappointment but that’s seriously where my heads at. Still plenty of movies on those lists that I haven’t seen yet though…
