Jude Law in Talks to Join Captain Marvel

After keeping his distance from major studio films over the past few years, Jude Law now seems to be mounting a comeback of sorts after landing significant roles in a handful of recent and upcoming blockbusters. He was the villain in Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword this past summer and he will be playing a young Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Now this week he is on the verge of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the male lead in the upcoming Captain Marvel film. Hit the jump to find out what we know.

According to Variety, Jude Law is in negotiations to star opposite Brie Larson in Marvel’s Captain Marvel. Law would reportedly play Doctor Walter Lawson aka Mar-Vell (aka the “original” Captain Marvel). He is being described as a mentor to Brie Larson’s character, Carol Danvers, although in the comics, he has also been a love interest as well. It is rumoured that Keanu Reeves was previously offered the role but he turned it down.

Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson) with the latest draft of the script being written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider, Gotham City Sirens). The movie will supposedly be set in the ’90s with Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn attached to play a villain. Do you think Jude Law will make a solid addition to the cast of Captain Marvel?

I’ve always liked Law. Good actor so I see this as a plus.

May have to work on the hair though.

I feel that Jude Law is a very interesting choice. Some of his characterizations would make a good fit for the character of Mar-Vell. But for the record, the actual original Captain Marvel was Billy Batson. :)
