Monday Morning Box Office Report: Justice League Wins the Battle But Loses the War

Just like Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad before it, Zack Snyder’s Justice League easily topped the box office over the weekend and pulled in what seems like a decent amount of money but it is still being viewed largely as a failure. To be fair, this time around the situation does seem a bit more dire. The movie debuted with $96 million, which continues a downward trend within the DC Universe from BvS ($166 million) to Suicide Squad ($133 million) to Wonder Woman ($103 million). Unfortunately, Justice League reportedly cost more than all of those movies ($300 million) and it was supposed to build on the previous installments. That did not happen and it will likely force them to rethink the DC Universe yet again. In second place, Wonder was a breakout hit with $27 million while Thor: Ragnarok fell to third. Daddy’s Home 2 and Murder on the Orient Express rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere The Star opened in sixth with $10 million while Three Billboards… jumped into the top 10 with $1.1 million from just 53 locations.
