Michael Haneke’s Happy End Trailer Starring Isabelle Huppert

happyend

Michael Haneke is back after a five year break with his first film since the Oscar-winning Amour and it looks like he’s up to his old tricks again. But is it more than just a rehash of his previous work? The movie is called Happy End and it appears to be another biting satire of upper class European life. It also promises to be both uncomfortable and divisive (as expected) and it finds him reuniting with Amour stars Jean-Louis Trintignant and Isabelle Huppert as well. Set against the backdrop of Europe’s migrant crisis, the plot revolves around a privileged bourgeois family grappling with their own issues. It premiered at Cannes in May, although Sony Pictures Classics had already scooped up the North American and Latin American rights late last year. Happy End hits select theatres on Dec. 22nd, just in time for some awkward family viewing over the holidays. Check out the U.S. trailer after the jump and see what you think.

“is it more than just a rehash of his previous work?”
Not really in my opinion. I was pretty disappointed with it.

I somewhat agree with Tommy. It’s probably Haneke’s weakest film. It’s still pretty good as a sequel to AMOUR though.
