I, Tonya Red Band Trailer

Following up on the teaser trailer that we saw last month, Neon has just released a new full-length trailer for Craig Gillespie’s upcoming film I, Tonya. The movie stars Margot Robbie as former U.S. figure skater Tonya Harding and the new trailer gives us a much better idea of what to expect from the film (thanks largely to the fact that it is also a red band trailer). The dark, edgy tone is on full display here along with an irreverent self-awareness as Robbie seems to narrate to the camera at various points. Allison Janney also looks like she just might steal the show as Harding’s abusive mother LaVona Golden. I, Tonya hits select theatres on Dec. 8th; check out the new trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I am interested in this only because it is a biopic seemingly focused solely on the attacker. I would have though the play would be to do the standard biopic on Nancy Kerrigan and how she overcame this assault, I am down for the other perspective though. I have also heard that Janney is the front runner for best supporting actress Oscar right now, so she probably does end up stealing the movie.

Janney is a national treasure so I really hope she does win. I really want to see this but I’m considering boycotting because I don’t think you can tell the story in its entirety without including the sex tape. It’s vital, really. Sometimes you have to take a stand!
