Justin Lin Confirmed for Fast & Furious 9 and 10, Jordana Brewster Also Returning

Earlier this month when it was announced that Universal was delaying the next Fast & Furious movie to 2020 and replacing it with a Dwayne Johnson / Jason Statham spin-off, it seemed to set off a clash of egos among various cast members. The story that was being pushed on social media was that Dwayne Johnson had demanded the release date change, but behind the scenes we were hearing that the delay was mostly due to scheduling issues with potential directors. It was rumoured that Justin Lin might be considering a return to the franchise and now this week Vin Diesel has seemingly confirmed that he will be back along with series regular Jordana Brewster. As Dom would say, you don’t turn your back on family, even when they do. Hit the jump for more info.

Yesterday Vin Diesel revealed the news via a Facebook Live stream, showing both Justin Lin and Jordana Brewster on set with him. An official announcement has not been made by Universal, but EW is reporting that Justin Lin is indeed in “advanced talks” to direct what will potentially be the final two films. Jordana Brewster will also apparently appear after sitting out The Fate of the Furious. Brewster’s character Mia is married to Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), which is why she was absent from the last film, but I’m sure they will find a way to bring her back into the fold without him.

Justin Lin’s last film was Star Trek Beyond and he also has a few other upcoming projects in development including Space Jam 2 and Lone Wolf and Cub. It is unclear if any of those would come before Fast & Furious 9. He previously directed four of the Fast & Furious movies including parts 5 and 6, which are widely regarded as the best of the series. Clearly this will be exciting news for fans, although it is getting harder and harder to top each previous film with bigger action sequences. Do you think Fast & Furious 9 and 10 will go out on a high note?
