The Raid Director in Talks for Deathstroke Movie

It seemed inevitable that Hollywood studios would eventually come knocking at the door of Gareth Evans after he wowed action fans with The Raid: Redemption and its sequel a few years back. Frankly, I’m not sure why it has taken this long for him to land a major tentpole film, although he has had a few other projects in the works (his next film, Apostle starring Dan Stevens, was acquired by Netflix earlier this year). Now this week we are hearing that Warner Brothers is close to signing him to direct a DC Extended Universe movie that would revolve around the Batman villain Deathstroke. Hit the jump for the full scoop.

According to THR, Gareth Evans is in early talks to direct a Deathstroke solo movie for Warner Brothers. Joe Manganiello is attached to play the assassin, who was slated to appear in Ben Affleck’s The Batman before Affleck pulled out as director back in January. Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) is now directing that movie, but it is unclear if Deathstroke is still expected to be involved.

Deathstroke has already been a recurring character on The CW’s Arrow series, where he is played by Manu Bennett. This would be Manganiello’s first big blockbuster role, however, after appearances in smaller movies like Magic Mike, Sabotage and Pee-wee’s Big Holiday. He will also co-star with The Rock in the upcoming Rampage movie. Are you interested in a Deathstroke solo movie and do you think Gareth Evans is an inspired choice to direct?

Yes I’m pumped for this. Fingers crossed it happens.

I’m not against this, but I really hope he gets to make The Raid 3. That could be the perfect action trilogy.
