P.T. Anderson’s Phantom Thread Trailer Starring Daniel Day-Lewis

Despite an expected December 2017 release date, things have been strangely silent surrounding P.T. Anderson’s upcoming film Phantom Thread up until now with the film failing to make an appearance at any of the usual fall film festivals. Fortunately, this week Focus Features have finally unveiled the first trailer for the movie, which will feature the final Daniel Day-Lewis performance before he supposedly retires from acting. The movie is set in the fashion world of 1950s London and finds DDL playing “an uncompromising dressmaker commissioned by royalty and high society.” Lesley Manville, Richard Graham and Vicky Krieps also co-star. Phantom Thread hits select theatres on Dec. 25th; check out the first trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I have to admit, if I saw this trailer without PT Anderson’s name attached, I would chalk it up to being some relatively boring Oscar bait.
I will of course see the film, and I trust it will be something more than this trailer hints at.

Yep, still totally soft after watching that.

  • Jameson

I’m definitely seeing this because of Anderson/DDL, but I’ll admit this trailer was extremely underwhelming.

I’m fascinated enough just wondering why PTA imagined up a movie like this, in it’s setting, with a (seemingly) less intense tone, no hints of violence.
    I’m pumped to find out.

Maybe after DDL retires he will start his own fashion line. Hell he probably mastered it preparing for this roll. I think the movie looks really good, the character seems very puzzling. The sewing of messages hidden in the garments was definitely strange.

Looks like a Tom Hooper film.

This trailer was as dry and boring as the movies description would indicate.
I’m also hoping that there’s something more to it. ????
