The New Mutants Trailer

Here’s the first trailer for the next movie set in the X-Men universe, The New Mutants, which apparently will not include the name X-Men anywhere in the title. It is unclear if it will have any direct connection to the previous films (a James McAvoy cameo as Professor X was rumoured at one point) but it mostly focuses on new characters played by Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Alice Braga, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga and Blu Hunt. Directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), the movie seems to have a darker tone than the previous X-Men movies and revolves around five young mutants who are being held against their will in a secret facility where they are being experimented on. The New Mutants hits theatres on April 13th. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

    That looks absolutely terrible

I’m all for superhero movies experimenting with genre, but if you take the name away this just looks like a garbage horror film.

Wow that looks so baaaaaaaddd! Looks like a show that should be on Fox’s primetime schedule instead of being released as a movie.

Can Fox let go of the X-men franchise now and give it back to Marvel. I would like to see a real X-men movie,

I refuse to watch this solely on how annoyed I was by Alice Braga in I Am Legend.

It does look a bit like a generic horror film BUT I’m all for bringing twist to the superhero genre which by now has gotten a bit formulaic.

  • I think it looks fun. I’m in, and have no issue with them leaving the “X-Men” out of the title. Can’t quite tell with your editorializing whether you are being sarcastic or not and think it should be there or not. I think if it was X-men: The New Mutants we would see much different critical reception (unfortunately). Hope this has a nice $20M opening weekend and is a modest hit and encourages more tweaks on the typical hero film.
