Sylvester Stallone Will Direct Creed 2

Although a sequel to the Rocky spin-off Creed has been slower to materialize than originally expected, it would appear that everyone is finally almost ready to get back in the ring. A few months ago, Dolph Lundgren confirmed rumours that he would return as Ivan Drago in Creed 2, something that Sylvester Stallone had been hinting at for a while now. Stallone had supposedly finished writing the script earlier this year and now this week he has offered another big update via his Instagram account. Apparently the movie will shoot next year and he will be directing it himself, taking Ryan Coogler’s place behind the camera. Here’s what he had to say:

Now obviously this has yet to be confirmed by the studio, so it is possible that this is just Sly campaigning for the job, but it does sound official and it does make a lot of sense. Coogler has been pretty busy directing Black Panther and he remains in high demand in Hollywood. Stallone has directed plenty of Rocky installments himself (Rocky II, III, IV and Rocky Balboa) and seems like the best man for the job if Coogler is unavailable. That being said, Coogler did bring some new ideas to the table and it is a bit disappointing that he may not be able to continue down the new path that they started. Are you excited to see Stallone direct Creed 2?
