Monday Morning Box Office Report: It Resurfaces at the Top

It was an extremely tight race at the box office over the weekend with three movies going neck in neck at the top for a photo finish. Early estimates have It returning to #1 with $17.3 million, but American Made and Kingsman: The Golden Circle were also right there deadlocked at $17 million. With American Made, that’s the lowest opening for a Tom Cruise movie since the first Jack Reacher back in 2012, although that movie had some decent staying power thanks to its holiday release slot. It would appear that U.S. audiences are still not that interested in seeing Tom Cruise outside of the usual action roles. The Lego Ninjago Movie fell to fourth while Flatliners was essentially D.O.A. in fifth with $6.7 million. It should be interesting to see how things shake out next weekend with Blade Runner 2049.
