Monday Morning Box Office Report: Kingsman: The Golden Circle Licensed to Kill

Kingsman: The Golden Circle pretty much fell in line with expectations over the weekend as it pulled in $39 million, slightly more than the $36 million the original Kingsman made just two years ago. I’m sure Fox was hoping for a little bit more, but if they’re lucky the sequel will keep making money well into October. Stephen King’s It finally fell to second place, earning another $30 million, while The Lego Ninjago Movie opened in third with a disappointing $21.1 million debut. That’s less than half of The Lego Batman Movie‘s opening (and less than a third of what The Lego Movie made) and may mean diminishing returns for the Lego franchise although Ninjago is much more clearly aimed at kids. American Assassin and Home Again rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, the R-rated horror movie Friend Request was outright rejected by audiences with a dismal $2.4 million, no doubt impacted by the continued success of It.
