Tomb Raider Trailer Starring Alicia Vikander

Following a brief tease earlier this week, Warner Brothers have finally released the first full trailer for their upcoming Tomb Raider reboot. The movie stars Alicia Vikander (The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Ex Machina) as Lara Croft, the role previously played by Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s. It certainly feels more gritty and grounded than the previous films, which is in keeping with the recent reboot of the video game series as well. Directed by Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug (The Wave), it also co-stars Walton Goggins, Dominic West, Hannah John-Kamen and Daniel Wu. Tomb Raider hits theatres on March 16th, 2018; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

I predict this will bomb. Although I kinda appreciate them trying to recreate sequences and visuals from the game. But I don’t buy Alicia Vikander as Lara.

This looks terrible. It makes me think of Uwe Boll with a big budget.

My initial feeling after watching the trailer was that Vikander is miscast. Jolie had the attitude and the looks. This seems pale in comparison. I also found it funny how the trailer seems to make a point that Lara Croft is played by an Academy Award Winner. I like the games, but seriously, I would call this a downgrade, not an upgrade. :-)

As in any critique of a trailer, I’m prepared to eat my hat if the actual movie proves me wrong.

    Looks like fucking shit

I like Vikander but I still think it should be a brit. Kinda hoping against hope that it’ll be good, it doesn’t seem like it should be this difficult to make a good Tomb Raider movie.

  • It seems not too bad!
