True Lies TV Series in the Works

We’ve been hearing about the possibility of a True Lies sequel ever since the original hit theatres back in 1994 and became one of the highest grossing movies of the year. James Cameron claimed in the early 2000s that 9/11 had forced to him to abandon the project and yet Tom Arnold continued to bring it up in interviews from time to time. As recently as 2011, Arnold Schwarzenegger had still acknowledged it as a possibility, although with Cameron permanently stuck in Pandora working on Avatar sequels, it didn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon. Now this week we have learned that the project is taking a new form: a TV series. Hit the jump for more info.

According to THR, Fox has given a put-pilot commitment to a TV series based on James Cameron’s 1994 action-thriller True Lies. Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim will write the script while McG will executive produce and also direct the pilot. James Cameron is listed as an executive producer although he will probably not have much creative involvement.

The original movie starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as a CIA agent whose wife is considering having an affair because she thinks he’s actually a boring computer salesman. The TV series is said to be a modern version of that story so I’m guessing it will be the wife who turns out to be a spy this time around. Guggenheim’s other credits include DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the Netflix animated series Trollhunters and the Green Lantern feature film. Do you have any interest in a True Lies TV series?

If it adds a little more pressure on JC to get the damn blu-ray out, then I’m all for it (might not actually watch it though).

Cameron to McG has to be the biggest drop in directing talent ever.
