The Disaster Artist Trailer #2

Here’s another movie that debuted at TIFF last night (although a work-in-progress cut already premiered at SXSW back in March): James Franco’s The Disaster Artist. Based on Greg Sestero’s memoir about the making of The Room, this movie is directed by and stars Franco as cult filmmaker Tommy Wiseau while his brother Dave plays Sestero. A24 released a teaser trailer back in June but now this week they have unveiled a full trailer that takes us through the formation of Greg and Tommy’s friendship before bringing us behind the scenes of some of The Room‘s most well-known scenes. I’m still not completely sold on Franco’s accent, but overall this looks like a lot of fun and some reviews are saying this is Franco’s best work behind the camera to date. The Disaster Artist hits select theatres on Dec. 1st; check out the new trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

I hate to be that guy but i’m already seeing things where i’m going “that’s not in the book.”

Saw the premiere at TIFF. I loved it but the audience enthusiasm was a huge reason why it worked. Not sure if Frank would have hated the midnight madness audience laughing at everything James Franco says.

Man Franco is a spitting image of Tommy! Both looks and speech! Hysterical! Looking forward to this!

this actually looks pretty good, despite the terrible wig.

  • I am an unabashed Franco tragic. As a handsome fellow film postgrad, yes, he scores points there – but it’s mainly because he always gravitates towards projects with interesting characters, even if they’re otherwise average/terrible. He’s not afraid to go for the ‘riskier choice’, and I like that in actors/gents in general. Just finished ‘reading’ The Disaster Artist (audiobook), and am pumped to the rafters for this one. Franco as a (presumably) Eastern European amateur auteur/egomaniac who wears two belts for butt-enhancement purposes …CAN’T WAIT.

  • As they’re both handsome rebels who’ve had run-ins with the COPO, I’d imagine it’s more like Franco + Frankie 4 EVA, yeah?
