Drew Goddard to Direct X-Force Movie Featuring Deadpool

Next year Fox will step up their comic book movie game by releasing no less than 3 movies set in the X-Men universe: X-Men: New Mutants, Deadpool 2 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. We’ve also been hearing about a possible X-Force movie for a while now as well but it has been unclear how it might fit into their overall plan. At long last, this week we have an update on the project revealing that it is being envisioned as a full-blown team follow-up to Deadpool 2. The studio has also settled on a director for the project and it sounds like they are ready to move full steam ahead. Hit the jump for the full scoop.

According to Deadline, The Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard will write and direct X-Force for 20th Century Fox, based on the more violent black-ops offshoot of the X-Men created by Rob Liefeld in the ’90s. The movie is expected to bring back Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin as Deadpool and Cable respectively, and we can probably assume that Zazie Beetz will reprise her role as Domino. Simon Kinberg, Ryan Reynolds and Lauren Shuler Donner are on board as producers.

Back in 2013, Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) had been hired to write and possibly direct the X-Force movie but he no longer seems to be involved. Goddard has dabbled in comic book properties before, having acted as the initial showrunner for Marvel’s Daredevil series and also previously attached to direct The Sinister Six movie for Sony. Before he takes on X-Force he will also direct a thriller called Bad Times at the El Royale starring Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges. Are you looking forward to an X-Force movie?
